The Solution

Two factors makes the spray sizing devices complex and costly:

  1. Complicated measurement systems, sensors, and algorithms are needed to rapidly measure each droplet size among millions of droplets that are moving at high speeds.

  2. Because the devices are large, they have to be set outside of the spray to inspect inside of the spray. This requires large optics and powerful lasers which are the main costs of these systems.

  • We have eliminated both of the above requirements,

(i) using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to extract droplet size information from a set of simpler measurements,

(ii) making the device small enough so that it can be temporarily held inside of large sprays, or around small sprays, to measure droplet sizes.

  • By developing the above innovations,  our device is not only small, simple, and requires no training and no lengthy alignment, but it costs 20 times less than currently available devices
